The ports are classified into Major, Minor & Intermideate- as per administrative signification.
There are 200 minor port & intermediate ports out of which some are privately owned.
The India Port Trust has been established in the year 1980 under the Major Port Trust Act, 1963, was inaugrated by the then Government Minister of Shipping & Transport, Mr. A.P.Sharma.
The 9 coastal Indian States are - Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and West Bengal. These 9 states having all Major & Minor ports of India.
Ennore Port is located at Coromandel Coast of Tamil Nadu.
Mundra Port in Gujarat is India's largest private Port.
The Kandla Port is the First Special Economic Zone in India as well as in Asia.
